Yacht Devices YDEG04 - Data recording and diagnostics

In the vast majority of cases, the installation of a motor data gateway works without any problems, however sometimes there are problems and there It is often relatively difficult to troubleshoot.
Yacht Devices has a really good support organization that is both fast and competent, but able to do a good work, they often need a log file from the product and in this blog post we describe how to create it.
To record a log file, proceed as follows:
strong>
Closing of the engine ignition. Create a file called YDEG.TXT with the following line included:
ENGINE_LOG = ON
Note that the given configuration is not saved in that memory på YDEG-04 and it will stop recording after the card is removed or when the NMEA 2000 network is shut down.
Insert the MicroSD card into the device and turn on; on engine ignition. The device starts recording data to the MicroSD card and creates a file in the root folder named YDEGxxx.CAN, where xxx is a file number. The device starts recording to a new file each time the power to the engine network is turned on.
When the ignition is turned off (power to the engine network the network), the device closes the file. Switch off the ignition and wait for it to start. that the status of the motor network changes - to be shown by a red signal from the LED. After this, the memory card can be safely removed from the device.
To view, convert or export .CAN files, you can use the free program CAN Log Viewer, which works on; Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux: http://www.yachtd.com/products/can_view.html
The file format is open and described in the CAN Log Viewer documentation. To analyze the data, protocol knowledge is required. BRP CAN is a proprietary protocol, Volvo Penta EVC protocol is a proprietary extension of the J1939 protocol. J1939 protocol documentation can be obtained from SAE (http://www.sae.org)
