By replacing the active material on the negative plate with a lead-carbon composite, potentially reducing sulfation and improving the charge acceptance on the negative plate.

The advantages of lead carbon are thus:

• Less sulphation when operating with partial charge
• Lower charging voltage and thus higher efficiency and less corrosion on the positive plate
• The overall result is an improved cycle life
