VICTRON ENERGY ARG100301000R, is an isolation diode that allows simultaneous charging of three battery groups from a generator or battery charger, without connecting all battery groups together. Discharging the load battery does not drain the starter battery.

An advantage of Argo separator diodes is the low voltage drop thanks to Schottky diodes: at low current the voltage drop is approximately 0.2 - 0.3 V and at maximum load approximately 0.45 V. All models have a compensation diode that can be used to raise the output voltage of the alternator or battery charger. This compensates for the voltage drop across the diodes.

When installing a separator diode, expert advice should be sought. Simply installing the isolation diode between the generator and the batteries results in a lower charging voltage. The result can be that the batteries are not charged to 100% with premature aging of the batteries as a result.

Alternator Input Amplification
Some generators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, direct current will be available when the generator is directly connected to a battery. However, inserting a diode or FET splitter prevents return voltage/current from the battery to B+ and the alternator will not start. The new “AC” diode isolator features a special current limited input gain that will drive B+ when the motor switch is closed.
