VICTRON ENERGY CYR010230412, is a battery combiner (isolation relay) for lithium batteries. Cyrix battery combiners are microprocessor-controlled powerful relays that automatically connect batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a preset voltage (indicating that the battery is charging) and disconnects when the voltage drops to a floating level (indicating that one or more batteries are discharging). Cyrix battery combiners are an excellent alternative to diode isolators. The most important feature is that there is virtually no voltage drop, so the output voltage from generators or battery chargers does not need to be increased.
Cyrix connects a starter battery (lead-acid) with a lithium battery if: The charge output from a VE-Bus BMS is high or if there is more than 13.4V (or 26.8V) at the terminal. Cyrix immediately disconnects: When the control output is free, indicating overvoltage or overtemperature, or when the battery voltage is below 13.2V. Cyrix has a start assist function. A short pulse closes the relay for 30 seconds.
Overheat protection
Cyrix disconnects if temperatures become too high, and reconnects when it has cooled down.
No voltage loss
Cyrix battery combiners are an excellent replacement for isolation diodes. The great advantage is that there is no voltage loss, so the voltage from the alternator or battery charger does not need to be increased.
Starter battery prioritization
In a typical installation, the alternator is connected directly to the starter battery. The house battery and possibly a bow thruster battery or other battery, are each connected to the starter battery with a Cyrix battery combiner. When a Cyrix senses that the starter battery has reached the connection voltage, it ensures that the others are charged in parallel.
Bidirectional voltage sensing
Cyrix senses the voltage from both batteries. It can therefore also connect if, for example, the house battery is charged with a charger. The Cyrix-ct 12/34 has dual power supply. Therefore, it switches on if the voltage from a battery is too low to control the unit. To protect against accidental use, the Cyrix-ct does not close if the voltage is lower than 2V (12V batteries) or 4V (24V batteries).
Parallel connection in an emergency (Start Assist)
Cyrix can also be switched on with a push button (Cyrix is closed for 30 seconds) or a switch for manual operation. This is suitable if a battery is discharged or damaged.
