SMARTPLUG - SmartPlug's 4-step solution protects against overheating every step of the way. Loose connections are handled by a sleeve design and a multi-point locking system that removes all physical stress from the pins while securely attaching the connector to the socket. The pin contact area is increased by more than 20x and is protected behind three weatherproof seals for a dry and corrosion-free connection.

Contrary to popular belief, the cause of power outages and fires ashore is not electrical shorting, but rather overheating caused by poor electrical conductivity. How does this happen? The problems with many plug designs is that the shape of electrical pins allows for very little contact area, and the pins themselves are also largely responsible for carrying all the physical stress on the cord (from constant movement of the boat, someone tripping on the cord, etc.… ) This results in the pins working loose, reducing the precious little contact area they had to begin with. Furthermore, such loose connections allow moisture ingress and ultimately corrosion of the pins. Arcing occurs and the connection heats up, burns, and in some cases catches fire. Since the current draw is unchanged, all of this happens long before a circuit breaker or a GFCI can break the current. Additionally, the old design can be very difficult to use in low-light or hard-to-reach scenarios because the “L”-shaped pin must first be positioned and then oriented before connecting.

Smart Plug Systems is a privately held manufacturing company that specializes itself on power delivery systems. It was founded in 2007 and is located in Seattle, WA. Its flagship product, the SmartPlug, is a patented device positioned to replace the current power delivery system for RVs, boats and a variety of specialty vehicles and various industrial applications.
