Venus OS v3.20 – OrionXS, new Marine MFD app etc.
Matthijs Vader, Victron Energy |16/02, 2024

Victron Energy has just released a new version of Venus OS, the software for GX surveillance product series such as Cerbo GX and the recently launched Ekrano GX.
Let's do it; through the highlights of v3.20 release:
Completely renewed Marine MFD App
Victron Energy i has completely renewed App that works on; all popular chartplotters and MFDs. A lot of work has been put into to integrate Victron's products into this new interface. We've made it clear and readable at a glance, while making it much more responsive. Overall a great improvement for people with Victron powered boats.
Here is an example of; the new interface showing the new tank levels and several battery charge meters.
It is available in dark and light to match your bridge's style. This example also showså temperature sensors.
This fast new interface fits perfectly on be supported MFD partner products.
Support for our new Orion XS 12/12 50A DC-DC Battery Charger
- In DC to DC converter mode: Orion will appear as an entry in the device list, and you can see the voltage release as well as the on/off power switch.
- In charging mode: the GX unit assumes a generator as the source and displays the generator output current in the new Marine MFD App view. The charger also activates DVCC functions to optimize charging, including SVS, SCS and STS, as well as enabling a user setting for system-wide charging current limiting and managed BMS support.
See the GX manual and sö k after DVCC for a more detailed description of these abbreviations, functions, and behaviors.
Managed batteries
This version adds automatic configuration profiles for WeCo and FinDreams batteries to force enable DVCC and SVS and disable STS.
Connection stability for the Cerbo GX BMS-Can 500kbps port has been improved . It is now no longer necessary to power cycle the GX after connecting a battery bms with a different baud rate.
Victron Energy has made some internal changes to the process for how we work with managed lithium batteries. The market has matured a lot in the years since we started supporting BMS-Can and we now have a very robust and reliable protocol, with many partners and 100,000s of managed lithium battery systems installed out in the world. worldwide.
This has allowed us to streamline auto-configuration profiles to add new compatible batteries.
Generator monitoring
This update provides more detailed diagnostics for DSE generator controllers, including error code descriptions, number of engine starts and tank level monitoring (also now supported by ComAp controllers).
For advanced users, we have added Modbus-TCP registers to set the boost factor, PowerAssist & Inverter output voltage for VE.Bus units (Multis, Quattros). These are used to optimize hybrid generator systems.
Multi RS
This release adds support for Multi RS for 3-phase visualization in ;the overview and VRM.
Custom tracker names are now also supported; by Multi RS.
There is a new option to set Multi RS to passthrough mode. In this mode, the AC output is taken directly from the AC input and the converter and AC charger are turned off, while the solar cell remains active. .
Additional features and developer updates:
We now have support for Ukrainian, improved compatibility with IMT sensors (adds support for 2nd sensor) and removed support for Quby AC sensor.< /p>
Temperature calibration parameters have been added to Ekrano GX and Cerbo GX, which makes it possible for an installer to manually adjust the temperature readings for Cerbo and Ekrano built-in temperature ports.
Under the hood we have access to FlashMQ for MQTT, which improves performance and reduces CPU load. If you are using the MQTT API, there may be some changes required in your code.
NMEA2000 & SignalK
Added support for loading generic generator data. See the release notes for the requirements. This is known to work with Across Ocean System's current monitors.
Updated SignalK Server from v1.46.3 to v2.5.0 and updated signal-venus plugin from; n v1.30.2 to v1.34.0.
Many more Changes: Changelog
There are many more improvements, bug fixes and updates under the hood. To unlock the details, see the full changelog by logging in at Victron Professional and select 'Firmware' - > 'Venus Olympics' -> 'firmware changelog'.
Specifically for Node-RED, the changes in this version are already specified in the changelog, and will also be to be covered in more detail in an upcoming blog post to be released in the near future.
