Are you experiencing problems with your touch screen? your plotter? In så case you may have a problem with incorrect grounding?
The power cable usually has three wires Black (-), Red (+) and Gray; or an exposed cable (Ground cable) and the boat lacks an RF grounding point, which is the case in most recreational boats, the ground cable must be connected to the negative terminal of the battery.
The most common error during an installation This means that the ground cable is left "hanging" instead of being connected, which can result in limited touch functionality, among other things. The reason for this is that the ground cable is there to create a wave with low resistance to provide a return path for noise signals and if this is missing for the sensitive touch function is missing.
Below is a clip from the Axiom manual and the section for power connection.
The power cable must be connected to a 12V DC outlet. It can be done by direct connection to a battery or via the electrical central. For boats with 24V, a voltage converter is needed. The product is protected against reversed polarity.
- Power/NMEA2000 cable connects to back of the display
- The ground wire connects to an RF ground point. If this is missing, it is connected to the minus pole of the battery (-)
- Positive (red) cable is connected to the plus pole of the battery (+)
- Waterproof salt holder with 7A must be mounted (not included)
- Minus cable is connected to the battery's minus pole (-)
