Compatibility between Raymarine AXIOM LH4 and SPX Autopilots – How the Connection Works

Learn how AXIOM and AXIOM 2 with LightHouse 4 share data with older SPX autopilots via SeaTalk Ng or SeaTalk 1, and what limitations apply.

Raymarine AXIOM and AXIOM 2 with LightHouse 4 (LH4) operating system can share important navigation information with older SPX autopilots. This occurs via SeaTalk Ng (NMEA2000) or via SeaTalk1 with the help of a Raymarine ST1/STNg converter (E22158). The data shared includes:

  • Rudder position
  • Heading information
  • Route data
  • Steering to waypoint

SeaTalk Ng Systems

For best compatibility, it is recommended to use the SeaTalk Ng network when connecting AXIOM or AXIOM 2 to older autopilots.

If your system uses SeaTalk 1, you can connect via an ST1/STNg converter to enable data sharing between AXIOM MFD and SPX autopilot.

Limitations when used with older autopilots

It is important to note the following limitations:

  • AXIOM / AXIOM 2 LH4 MFD cannot put older autopilots into Auto mode or Track mode.
  • No direct control from the chartplotter – steering is only via the autopilot's own control unit.
  • The calibration menu for SPX autopilots is not accessible via AXIOM / AXIOM 2 LH4 MFD.

For full autopilot control and advanced features, a Raymarine Evolution Autopilot is required, which is fully compatible with LightHouse 4.
