Dynamic energy storage system: save energy costs – automatically.
Justin, Victron Energy |23/04, 2024
Dynamic Energy Storage System is a powerful new feature available for grid-connected installations from Victron Energy.
It is particularly effective in Europe, for example where will save money if your energy supplier publishes energy prices for the day ahead – which often happens in Germany and the Netherlands, for example – and it will alsoå to save money for those on day/night/weekend and fixed tariffs.
Who is dynamic ESS for? It can be used by users of home energy storage systems – solar energy system that includes battery storage and a grid connection – which is controlled by a GX unit. A supported grid energy meter will further improve the function's accuracy and cost savings.
(The home installation may include a generator so long as it is only used normally for nöndströmförsörjning.)

What does the function Dynamic ESS?
Dynamic ESS switches intelligently between battery storage, solar energy and the grid. Based on 'input' and 'storage' it optimally stores low-cost energy for use when prices are high.
How does it work?
An algorithm takes into account information such as the current energy cost, battery type (and therefore cycle life and cost), capacity, SoC (State of Charge), maximum charge/discharge rates; your typical energy consumption based on a four-week history; and a weather-related forecast for solar energy production – for which your location must be known.
Dynamic ESS plans for the future to ensure that the energy you find is used later on the day has already been stored – and at the most economical price.
How do I implement Dynamic ESS?
Dynamic energy storage system (Dynamic ESS) is one of the most exciting the features made available by software version v3.30 of our Venus OS – the operating system that powers all of our GX communication center devices, such as the Cerbo GX. Dynamic ESS can be configured through your GX device's user interface or via; remotely via the Victron Remote Management (VRM) platform.
Gå to 'Settings/Firmware' to make sure you are running v3.30 or later – or visit the VRM portal, doing to the device list, click onå Firmware Update. The firmware can alsoå updated with an SD card or USB memory stick.
When running v3.30 or later, which has an ESS Assistant installed, you will find Dynamic ESS as a menu item under Settings. You will be asked to enter various details which may take fifteen minutes. Your cost savings will start immediately, accrue over the next 28 days and continue for life!
