VICTRON ENERGY ARG080201000, is a diode battery isolator that allows simultaneous charging of two battery banks from an alternator or battery charger.
VICTRON ENERGY ARG080201000, is a diode battery isolator that allows simultaneous charging of two battery banks from one alternator or battery charger, without connecting all battery banks. Discharging the service battery does not result in draining the starter battery.
An advantage of Argo diode battery isolators is the low voltage drop thanks to Schottky diodes: at low current the voltage drop is approximately 0.2 - 0.3 V and at maximum load approximately 0.45 V. All models have a compensation diode that can be used to increase the output voltage of the alternator or battery charger. This compensates for the voltage drop across the diodes.
When installing a diode battery isolator, expert advice should be sought. Simply installing the diode battery isolator between the alternator and the batteries results in a lower charging voltage. The result can be that the batteries are not charged to 100%, leading to premature aging of the batteries.
Alternator input reinforcement
Some alternators need DC voltage on the B+ output to start charging. Obviously, DC will be available when the alternator is directly connected to a battery. However, by inserting a diode or a FET splitter, reverse voltage/current from the battery to B+ is prevented and the alternator will not start. The new “AC” diode isolator features a special current-limited input reinforcement that will power B+ when the engine switch is closed.
