STAR-TANK is a radar tank sensor with Bluetooth, designed to integrate with the Victron Energy Cerbo GX system. It can measure tank depths of up to two meters and wirelessly sends information via Bluetooth to the Cerbo GX unit, allowing the tank level to be displayed within the Victron system. STAR-TANK works for fuel, fresh water, grey water, and black water tanks.

Features:

  • Compatible with fuel, fresh water, grey water, and black water tanks.
  • Designed for easy connection to Victron Energy GX units.
  • Easily mounted on top of the tank.
  • Works directly with non-metallic tanks.
  • For metal tanks, a hole and installation with SAE 5-hole mounting fixture are required.
  • 5-year warranty.
  • Battery-powered (CR2477).
  • Sends data via Long Range Bluetooth, with a range up to 40 meters in a boat.
  • Supports tank depths up to 2000 mm.

Installation:
STAR-TANK can be glued to a non-metallic tank, or mounted on a metal tank using the included SAE 5-hole mounting fixture.

Usage:
STAR-TANK sensor support is built into Venus OS, and these radar tank level sensors use Bluetooth Low Energy. This wireless technology allows devices to communicate within a range of approximately 40 meters (with Bluetooth adapter to Cerbo GX) and consumes significantly less power than traditional Bluetooth. The expected battery life is 5 years with an average tank fill of 50%, but may be shorter if the tanks are more or less filled. Fluid level, temperature, and sensor battery voltage are wirelessly streamed to the GX unit.

Technology:
STAR-TANK is equipped with a phase-coherent radar sensor that works for non-pressurized tanks. The tank level is measured up to 2 meters, but the top 30 mm from the sensor's base is not measurable. For fiberglass tanks, for example, with a thickness of 12 mm, it measures up to 18 mm from the top of the tank.

The sensors are easily attached to the top of all non-metallic tanks, including thick fiberglass tanks. For metal tanks, the sensor needs clear visibility to the fluid. To achieve this, a 5-hole SAE pattern adapter is included. To ensure an airtight seal, use gas sealing tape (often pink) around the thread to prevent gas from the tank from passing through the sensor.

Machine Learning:
STAR-TANK features advanced machine learning capabilities for calibration using AI. The sensors capture hundreds of reflected radar signals from the bottom and sides of the tank. During the first 10 seconds in "setup" mode, the program selects the dominant value and then retains the profile for the selected tank depth. When a new depth is selected in setup mode, a new filtering profile is stored. By going through the setup process, the filtering of the reflected signals is adapted to accurately measure the tank level.
