Recommended VHF antenna for AIS700
Digital Skipper |2/08, 2024

This is an advisory message to draw your attention to the correct selection and use of marine VHF antennas for use with AIS700 AIS Class B with integrated antenna splitter.
AIS700 requires a broadband antenna to provide good performance for both VHF radio and AIS transceiver.
The recommendation is to choose a marine broadband VHF antenna that covers the VHF radio frequency range with the following specifications:
- VHF radio frequency band: 156 MHz to 162 MHz
- VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio): 1.5:1 (ideal) 2:1 (max)
- Impedance: 50 Ohms
- Gain: 3dBi (max)
- Connector: PL-259
We do NOT recommend using VHF antennas that are optimized for AIS or radio frequencies as this may cause a VSWR fault alarm or permanently damage the AIS700.
Note that if an inappropriate antenna is connected, this may cause the system's VSWR fault alarm to be triggered and in some cases may permanently damage the transceiver.
