Simarine launches remote monitoring – New feature for Pico

How to activate Simarine's new experimental feature to monitor batteries, tank levels, and temperatures wherever you are.

Simarine introduces a new experimental feature that allows you to monitor batteries, tank levels, temperatures, and other readings via the app – no matter where you are. In this guide, we will go through how to activate the feature and what benefits it provides.

Why remote monitoring?

Do you own a boat in the marina or drive a motorhome/caravan? Then it is invaluable to be able to see battery status, temperatures, and tank levels remotely. Batteries are an expensive and critical part of your equipment – therefore, it is important to always know how much power is left.

The news: full control remotely

With the new feature, you can see all data and even configure settings via the app. Note that firmware updates are still done via Pico.

Requirements for remote monitoring

The feature is only supported by the revised version of Pico (rev. 2.0) with internet communication. Check your version:

  • Look at the label on the back of Pico.
  • Or go to MENU > SYSTEM > SYSTEM INFO. If the firmware starts with 1.xx, you have the correct version.

Step-by-step: Activate remote monitoring

1. Upgrade firmware

Install the latest firmware (v1.11) that supports remote connection. After the update, you will get a new mode: REMOTE in addition to AP and STA.

2. Register Pico in the app

Connect your phone to Pico via AP mode so that the app registers the serial number for remote communication. Then activate Experimental features and remote monitoring.

3. Activate REMOTE mode

On Pico: go to MENU > WIFI > MODE and select REMOTE. Connect to a WiFi network with internet access.

4. Start the app and synchronize

Make sure your phone has internet via WiFi or mobile data. Start the app and wait for synchronization (1–2 minutes). When a green globe icon appears, you have remote access to Pico.

Note: In REMOTE mode, only one device can be connected at a time.

What's next?

P.S. In two months, more features will be launched that will make remote monitoring even more powerful. Stay tuned!
