AIS4000 / AIS5000 Hardware Update - Resistors
Digital Skipper |18/06, 2024

Keeping your AIS4000 or AIS5000 updated is crucial to ensure optimal performance and reliability. In this blog post, we will go through why your AIS unit may request a software update even after one has been done, as well as how to properly terminate unused RX ports to avoid issues.
Terminate unused RX ports
A package of six 120-ohm resistors is included with AIS4000.
When connecting the 14-way and 18-way cables, all unused ports should be terminated with a 120-ohm resistor across the RX A and RX B signals as shown in the image below (and as recommended in the user manual. You can download all relevant manuals from the following links. AIS4000 - AIS5000).
Use the included resistors and a terminal block (not included) to terminate the unused ports as shown in the diagram above. Alternatively, the optional junction box accessory can be used for termination instead.
If the unused RX cables (of the 14-way and/or 18-way cables) are not properly terminated with 120-ohm resistors, the AIS4000/AIS5000 may fail to initialize and display the message below. In such a case, terminate the cables as explained above to restore normal operation.
