Raymarine p70 Autopilot Control Heads – Compatibility and Connection Guide

How to connect p70/p70R/p70s/p70Rs to older SeaTalk1 systems and modern SeaTalkng backbones for optimal performance.

Raymarine's p70/p70R/p70s/p70Rs Autopilot Control Heads are compatible with autopilot course computers from Type 150/S1 onwards, including Type 150G/S1G, Type 400/S2, Type 400G/S2G, S3 and S3G.

Important: Do not use a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter Kit to connect the p70 series to these older course computers with SeaTalk1 interface.

Connection to older SeaTalk1 systems

For correct connection, the p70 series should be connected to the same SeaTalk1 bus as the course computer via:

  • D244 SeaTalk Junction Block
  • SeaTalk1-to-SeaTalkng Adapter Cable

How to do it:

  1. Unplug the SeaTalk cable from the ST600x/ST700x/ST800x control head's SeaTalk port.
  2. Connect the unplugged cable to the D244 SeaTalk Junction Block.
  3. Connect the adapter cable to the p70 series' SeaTalkng spur-socket.

Connection to SeaTalkng-compatible course computers

The p70 series is also compatible with course computers with SeaTalkng interface, e.g., SPX5, SPX10, SPX30, SPX-SOL and SPX-CAN. These have both SeaTalk1 and SeaTalkng, but best practice is:

  • Connect the p70 series as a spur to a powered and correctly terminated SeaTalkng backbone.
  • Update the course computer with the latest Raymarine software for optimal function.

Summary

For older systems: use the SeaTalk Junction Block and adapter cable. For newer SPX systems: connect via the SeaTalkng backbone and update the software. This ensures full compatibility and best performance.
